Welcome to another week of online learning!  Most importantly, we hope you are all well and keeping safe. Remember to get in touch with your subject teachers if you have any concerns or need any help. You can also contact your Year Leader, Mr Jeffery or Ms Lee with any questions or concerns.

This week’s work is below for your classes. You should also check your emails as some additional instructions from teachers may be sent. The amount of time you should spend on the work should be roughly the same as you would do in school during this week.

Remember to get in touch with your teachers if you have any concerns or need any help with the work. If you can’t do it for whatever reason this week (or only do a part of it), just let your teacher know.

GCSE Pod - Please can ALL students complete the following GCSE Pods for Component 1: Computer Systems content and attempt ALL exam questions:

  • Log into: https://members.gcsepod.com/login and complete the following assignments by watching and making notes on each podcast and completing the set exam questions.

Year 9 Digital Information Technology

This week, students will continue to use their Google Classrooms and complete the set task:

  • Under Topic Learning Aim A: Pack A Modern Technologies on
  • 3. Cloud Storage & 4. Cloud Computing
  • Select and download the presentation:
  • Make notes on Cloud storage and cloud computing:
    1. features & uses of cloud storage
    2. features & uses of cloud computing
    3. how platforms and services impact the use of cloud technologies
  • Complete one class worksheets and one homework electronically
  • Upload notes, one class worksheets and one homework onto your Google Classroom assignment submission if you would like feedback
  • Deadline for submission will be set on Google Classroom

 Year 10 & 11 Digital Information Technology

Students have completed the first internal assessment and sat their external examination in Feb 2020. Students will now build on from Component 1 and 3 and explore Component 2 (internal scenario based assessment) to collect, present and interpret data. Students will explore how data impacts on individuals and organisations, draw conclusions and make recommendations on data intelligence and develop a dashboard using data manipulation tools.

Students will explore and participate in practical activities to develop their spread sheet skills. Students will begin the activity by understanding how data can be imported from an external source. They will then explore how to apply data processing methods to raw data. These include:

data manipulation methods:

  • importing data, e.g. from other files, the internet
  • formulae, e.g. add, divide, subtract, multiply
  • decision-making functions, e.g. IF, WHATIF, SUMIF
  • lookup functions, e.g. VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP 
  • string operation functions, e.g. LEFT, RIGHT
  • count functions, e.g. COUNTBLANK, COUNTIF
  • logical operators, e.g. NOT, AND, OR
  • sorting, e.g. sorting multiple columns and values
  • outline, e.g. group, ungroup, subtotal
  • filtering, e.g. greater than, less than, equals, contains, begins with, ends with
  • text to columns, e.g. delimited, fixed width.

Other processing methods:

  • absolute and relative cell referencing, e.g. use of dollar sign ($) and named cells
  • macros, e.g. for automatic navigation, change graph options, change data ranges
  • data validation, e.g. list check, type check, length check
  • multiple and linking worksheets, e.g. for dashboard and raw data
  • cell comments
  • alternative views, e.g. hiding/unhiding cells, freezing planes
  • conditional formatting, e.g. data bars, colour scales, icon sets.
  • This week, students will continue to use their Google Classrooms and complete the set task:
  1. Under Learning Aim B: Data Processing Methods continuation
    • Download the presentation on spread sheet skills on data manipulation methods and make notes on the different methods
    • Watch videos 1-6 on data processing skills
    • Apply the three skills to the raw data which has been provided
    • Complete the template electronically
    • Upload notes, completed spread sheet and template onto your Google Classroom assignment submission
    • Deadline for submission will be set on Google Classroom
